Ready for the Curtain Call Radio report this morning said that US forces in Iraq were reluctant to impose curfews, because they didn't want to seem 'heavy-handed' That gave me a little giggle.
I've always said that the best job in a live stage production was running the lights. During my yearlong stint at the Loose Moose Theatre (where I discovered that I am a really funny guy, just not on stage, or in a group of much funnier people) I spent most of it running the light board. Light boards are just complex enough to qualify as a technical job, while simple enough that you spend 73% of the performance picking your teeth. We're one dress rehearsal away from opening a three-day run of "The Power of His Love" at South Calgary Community Church. Rehearsals have been going on for weeks, and I've been dug in behind the board much of the last week. It's nice. It's a good cast, and the church puts on at least one major production a year, so they have experience and some decent equipment. The tech crew is a fun bunch of folks, and the play includes a live donkey, two lambs and a whole passel of doves (two of which get hucked into the audience during the performance), which promises much amusement during the actual performances. It's just left me with so little time. I've forgotten what it's like to be part of a show. The last one I did was Wex, and that was years ago now, so I've forgotten the time commitment. I've also never done a musical before. Someone could have warned me how bad the music gets embedded in your brain. It just... won't... stop.
Lisa will be writing a whole post on the now-infamous fake money order scam, so those of you in town who caught her on the consumer report on the news a couple days back will know the whole story. I think you'll like it. My pick for tonight: The guys thought with their John Henrys, thus allowing the women-folk to even up the numbers. It ain't gonna end now, and tonight's victim will be Matthew. That's what he gets for being so damned creepy.
