Artistic Tendencies

I'm still not feeling entirely better.

The cold symptoms are gone - mostly - but this cough just won't go away. Traditionally sore throats do last weeks with me, but I thought that was due to the damage from my acid reflux. Makes sense, right? The throat doesn't heal as quick because the acid is there, making things worse.

Apparently not.

It's not too bad. I only really start to cough when I'm in a meeting or trying to sleep. You know, when I really, really don't want to cough.

The office move is scheduled to finish up this weekend.

I stopped by to look at our new space again. Still no carpet, but at least the walls are all up and in place. Not painted or anything, but they seem to be standing without special braces.

Yay.

Went to a place called the Kilnary on the weekend. This is one of those paint-your-own-pottery places, where you pay for an unfinished cup or bowl or something, then you paint it however you like. They then glaze it and fire it in the kiln for you.

Had a lot more fun than I thought I would. I am not that creative, when it comes to painting and handicrafts, yet I think I did pretty well. I did a little twilight thing with bands of darkening sky and some stars coming out at the top. I'll see if it worked out once I get it back this Friday.

I wish I had more talent at crafting things. See, all of my skills are sitting in my brain, which doesn't want to share them with my hands. My brain can cook up a million ideas, but my hands can't wrap themselves around the intricacies. Oh sure, I can write fine, but you haven't seen me work a typewriter. I only graduated to using more than two fingers a few years back.

I would love to be able to paint. That is one of my ideal post-lottery-winning hobbies. Take some professional lessons, get all the right materials, and not have to worry about finding time to waste making smudges on canvas.

I always got good marks in art in school, but I never saw anything special in what I did. I'm quite certain, in fact, that most of my grades were along the good effort curve. They don't really start marking on quality of product until the university level, right?

Painting for pleasure sounds just so idyllic though. No concern for quality or grade, just the fun of putting brush to canvas in whatever method or style strikes your fancy.

Sigh.

All I can say about the Oscars is that I have a sneaking suspicion Michael Moore isn't going to be invited back next year.

You can watch the archive of his Oscar press conference after the show here. Click on one of the links under 'Documentary Feature'. It's a little over ten minutes long.
