Snow Day

Monday, May 6, 2002. Entry #145

It's snowed again.

Okay, this is getting silly. It's MAY. We should be seeing FLOWERS and LEAVES ON THE TREES!

I'm so not impressed.

The weather report predicts a total accumulation of 30 cm by the end of the day. That's a whole foot of snow. And we're going to make it there, that's for certain. I don't know how meteorologists measure snow accumulation, but based on my own unscientific method (i.e.: How much crap I had to shovel off my car this morning), we're already there.

And this isn't even a record snowfall. The all-time record snowfall for Calgary on this day in history is 48 cm back in 1981. Comparatively, this is just a drop in the pan. Or a flake on the lawn, if you will.

Environment Canada is currently predicting a high of 10°C (50°F) from Wednesday through the weekend, which means all this snow is soon going to back up our sewers and flood our streets. Just like every spring.

Sigh.

Heard an ad this morning that left me scratching my head.

For months this company has been hawking the 'Canadian Will Kit', which is supposed to be a nice, simple will form legal everywhere in Canada.

It comes with an unconditional money-back guarantee.

Yessiree. If you die and your will does not ensure the disposition of your material wealth in the manner you requested, you get your $24.95 back! Isn't that great!

I find that such a comfort.

Lisa's new store is open. It's driving her insane already.

First off, she's no longer the manager. She's now the assistant manager, under her old boss. That's not so bad, but in the time since they worked together, they've both evolved in different directions, management-wise, and Lisa's having to make some rapid adjustments to match her boss.

Most of her old staff came over to the new store, but that isn't nearly enough people to staff the place. So a bunch of people transferred from other stores, and a whole lot of new people were hired. It's like a weird Tribal Merge over there.

Plus it's a new store, so no one is quite sure where everything is. Paperwork is missing, record books are stashed somewhere 'safe'... it's a madhouse.

And parking sucks.

But it's a beautiful store, clean and well organized. Lots of new space for pets, with bigger kennels and better conditions. It's a good place.

One Year Ago: The first official month of my Out-Of-Work-And-I-Totally-Suck hiatus. I didn't manage to post once during May 2001. In fact, between March 30 and October 17, 2001, I only managed to post seven articles. Good lord!

Mom Rating: 1.5 out of 5. While Mom's okay with the snow, it doesn't bode well for her planned trip to the property in B.C. this weekend.
