My day as a Dalmatian

I showed up at work bright and early this morning. I put on my white t-shirt that I painted black spots on yesterday. I pulled out my black face paint and speckled up my face. I cut ears out of felt and taped them over my own.

There's no punch line. I love getting into costume. I love putting on makeup and acting goofy all day. It's fun. I wish more people got into it.

Out of my department of some 20 people, most wore painted t-shirts. About ten put additional makeup on and wore ears. One girl had a whole white body suit with sewn on ears and a tail. The VP wore the Cruella DeVil costume - he was pretty cute.

On the other side of the equation, 10 people had the secretary pick up blank t-shirts for them, a half-dozen had other people paint them for them, and three complained all day about having to wear them at all. In the company overall, I saw about 25 per cent in costume.

There are about three hundred people working in our office. So say 75 people in costume. If the numbers are like my department, the company breaks down like this:

  • 1.25% who went the extra mile.
  • 1.25% who did it because he was leading the department and the president expected him to dress up.
  • 10% who had fun with the concept.
  • 5% who put a little effort into it.
  • 3.75% who went along with it as long as they didn't have to do anything but wear something provided to them.
  • 3.75% who resented even that much.
  • 75% who didn't do anything at all.

Remember what it was like when we were kids? Not many of these people do.

Oh, and the water went out again today.

Mom Rating: 4 out of 5. Mom likes Halloween. She always dresses up.
