Days without a job:

Attempted Return

Well, this dry patch has turned into a full-blown hiatus, hasn't it?

I'm afraid this may not be the end though. I still don't have a new job, although my prospects remain good. I had a good interview a couple weeks back, and they are planning to do second interviews after the end of the month. I applied for a perfect writing position today with a new firm - hopefully that may lead to something.

Problem is, there are a lot of guys like me right now. The slowdown in the web industry has left a lot of us wondering what is next for us.

One thing that everyone is saying though: Things will bounce back.

Not to the scale it was, of course. For a while there, anyone could stick out a web shingle and rake in clients. But the bottom dropped out and everyone went broke.

But this is a pendulum, kids. Its first swings had a huge arc, but things will settle. Web design is an industry now, and the need still exists.

Give it some time.

Cashed in some Air Miles for movie tickets. Here's what we think of the summer movie scene so far:

The Mummy Returns:
Much the same as last time, really. Why did the Rock get primary billing if he was only in it for five minutes? And who did the Scorpion King animation at the end? It was right out of 'Lawnmower Man'.
A Knight's Tale:
Purists be damned! The whole rock music angle took a bit getting used to, but once we did this was cool. What was all that gunk on the princess's face anyway?
Shrek:
Amazing! What a beautiful send up of Disney and all traditional fairy tales. An excellent movie.
The Animal:
83 minutes of my life I will never get back. You know a movie is doomed when it's funniest moments are two five-second cameos.
Swordfish:
Whoa. This was edge of your seat stuff. After a kick-ass opening monologue the movie never let up for a moment. Hugh Jackman makes a perfect geek.
Evolution:
Now this was fun. It didn't take itself seriously at all, and we laughed a lot. The energy was a bit low at times - should'a been kicked up a notch - but still enjoyable.
Tomb Raider:
Think about the best action movies you know. How long is it between the final climax and the end credits? Two minutes? Maybe five at the most? I swear this movie went on for 15 minutes after the action ended. Everything before that was cool. Bizarre seeing Rimmer with a shotgun...

Still looking forward to: A.I., Rush Hour 2, Cats & Dogs, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Planet of the Apes, Osmosis Jones, Harry Potter, AND The Fellowship of the Ring. MAYBE Jurassic Park III. Don't really have my hopes up for that one...

That's it for now!

Over in the forum:
Oh, my poor neglected forum. I just don't have the energy... Maybe next week.

Mom Rating: 2 out of 5. Mom'll be happy I'm writing again. She still won't be entirely happy until I get a job.
On TV: Summer sucks for TV. I've beeen relegated to watching reruns of Earth: Final Conflict and Quantum Leap. And the Crocodile Hunter, of course.

Back to pre-hiatus

Isn't your anniversary coming up?

Take me home, big fella
