Great Big Sea rocks.
It's true. They do. They put on a hell of a show, and frankly, they were the best show of the night. They were also the ones everyone had really come to see. Before them, there were talented folks like Jesse Winchester, Martin Sexton and BeauSoleil, but while they got tons of applause (they are all great, folks) they still didn't get anyone dancing.

say it with me: great big sea rocks! |
Like any festival worth the name, this one was held under the evening sky, on Prince's Island Park. Big main stage, lots of smaller stages, food tents, beer gardens, blah blah blah. And the problem with having everyone sit on the ground to stare at a low stage is that if people stand up and start dancing, then the lazy chaps in the festival chairs can't see a thing.
There's a polite notice in the program book. "Please don't stand in front of others who are seated, so everyone can see the stage." They even set up a dance area off to one side if you wanted to boogie.
Yuck. Organized fun.
Needless to say, Great Big Sea was encouraging people to stand up and dance. Hee hee. Which we did. We danced, we cheered. We sang Mari-Mac at the top of our lungs. We taught the small child in front of us how to whoop and holler (much to the chagrin of his mother).
And when they were done (no encores at a festival, I guess) we packed up and left. Sorry, Mary Chapin Carpenter, you're good and all, but how can you stand up to that?
Rode a rickshaw back to the car. Now there's an uncertain mode of transportation. I kept waiting for the guy to slip and us to go flying over backwards. He claimed he hadn't dropped anyone since his first night, but still...
It was nice. Lisa and I haven't been out like that for a while. It felt like a date. No worries, no expense. We're not married, but we've been together for over four years (and living together for most of that), so it felt good to let our hair down.
Off to a barbecue this afternoon at Joel's. See ya!
You're still a lucky bastard
Mom Rating: 4 out of 5. Mom likes to dance.
Big Brother note: Wonder how Jordan is holding up? She seemed almost upset that she had to stay...
Survivor! note: I hate the fact that I can't sign up for the next one. It sucks that it's limited to US residents. I live in Canada! I can put up with anything those silly Americans can. Whaddya say to THAT, CBS?
