December 22, 1997

The new year is rolling in tonight, and I'm avoiding getting maudlin over the whole thing. I love the holiday, but I'm not really fond of the soul-searching people seem to need to do at the same time. I've never made a "New Year's Resolution" and have no intentions of doing so.

No, that is NOT a resolution in itself. So there.

New Year's is just another way to measure the passage of time. A way to look forward and back down the road and perhaps gain some perspective on what's going on.

The only other way to measure the passing of years is the counting of birthdays. But the New Year never brings on the sense of doom and gloom that birthdays seem to bring to some people. People are joyous at the passing of the year. They celebrate the fact with dancing and singing, hugging and drinking. And Dick Clark of course.

Anyway, here's to 1998. Better or worse, may it be different from 1997. Happy New Year!
