Apparently a school of herring
managed to capsize and sink a fishing trawler today off the coast of Norway.
The trawler had them in the net, when they all decided to swim for the
bottom of the ocean at once. The fishermen tried to cut the net loose,
but lost out to the vicious fishies, who dragged the boat down.
According to the news story,
it is unknown if the fish were able to escape the net.
I
like this. I think that there should be a little risk in all occupations
in the world -- just to add that 'bit of spice' to the effort. The fishing
industry has been mostly reduced to a science. The ships go out, the nets
go down and up comes Charlie, Flipper and all their gilled friends. But
this hearkens back to the days when men took their lives in their hands,
venturing out into the dark monster-infested waters to catch their dinners.
It must have been so much more invigorating!
I might enjoy a little risk
at my job. Right now, the biggest threat is of being struck by a ceiling
tile knocked loose by the phone guy. Not really enough to give an adrenaline
rush at all.
Of course, after about a
week, I think I'd begin to dislike having to fight sharks to get to my
desk every morning.
Sneaking past the boss's open door is dangerous enough.
On a side note, it's been
pointed out to me that I've been neglecting to put my email address on
these pages. Maybe that's why no one writes me about them... Well, I'll
start sticking it on the bottom and we'll see what you have to say!
