Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Reviews

Finally got around to watching the Hitchhiker's movie yesterday. As you may recall, we were a little occupied when it came out originally, but as it's now out on DVD, I could watch the whole extravaganza.

Good things:

  • The So Long and Thanks musical number with dolphins.
  • Martin Freeman as Arthur was perfect.
  • All the nods to the television show (the theme being played when the guide appears; the cameo by original Arthur, Simon Jones; seeing the TV Marvin in the queue on Vogsphere...)
Bad things:
  • Zaphod's heads.
  • What was with the Vice-President? The fuck was going on with her?
  • The weird way I kept expecting bits of dialogue from the book at never happened. It was like the setup we knew was there and... nothing. Weird.

Overall, I approve. Could have been better, and the ending was different enough to ensure that there's going to be NO sequels, which is disappointing. Still, I giggled a lot and that was what I expected.
