| 'Passed away peacefully' is how the obituary begins. I found out yesterday, when I read about it in Pam's blog. April Gorman passed away, only two weeks after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. I remember the first time I met April, something like 12 years ago. I was introduced to her by a friend in the Star Trek fan club I belonged to and I remember that April listened to me, taking the time to give this new, unknown person her full attention, even though she was in a hurry. April was everything people mean when they talk about someone being 'good', and she was everything people suspect doesn't exist in the world of 'fandom'. She was sweet, intelligent, considerate, kind, adventurous, funny, helpful. Every time we saw each other she had a bright smile and a hug ready. She was genuine in a way you see in far too few people. We both were always too busy to relax and catch up when we ran into each other in the past few years. Isn't that always the case though? She will be missed by a lot of people. A Thanksgiving Service in celebration of April's life will be held Saturday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkdale United Church (2919 - 8 Avenue N.W.). |
