There And Back Again: The Wedding & Honeymoon Part I

Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6

I'm finding it hard to encompass the last three weeks into one post without taking another six weeks to write all of it down. So I'll begin with these summaries, and carry over into next week with more.

The Wedding: It was everything we could have hoped for. If things went wrong, we were successfully shielded from them by those around us. As far as we can recall, it was a flawless and wonderful occasion.

The Honeymoon: A microcosm of our lives. 80% unadulterated joy, 10% financial horror, 10% close recovery and return to joy.

I realize that the above summary requires some explanation, and I will, but the important part is that we had an excellent time. Disney World is brilliant, the cruise was an experience of a lifetime and everything south of the border costs way too much freaking money and no one down there has every heard of 'full disclosure' in regards to customer service.

Okay, some more details.

The wedding really was stellar. Connie and Tim (Maid of Honour and Best Man respectively) took amazing care of us both, ensuring our day was full of fun and love, skillfully handling all issue that came there way. Our love and thanks to them both, and everyone else who contributed, especially our families.

Moments of Note:

Taking a ride on the Science Centre's 'Grav-Bike' in full tuxedo one hour before the ceremony. It's a bicycle that loops around a vertical circle, with the aid of gravity and some furious peddling. I had to sit down for a while after that one.

The doors at the top of the Discovery Dome (the Imax-style theatre in the Centre where the actual ceremony was held) opening and Lisa walking in. I burst into tears just watching her come down the stairs.

Glancing up at the huge domed screen while we signed the license and Tony and my sister gave the readings, and seeing nebulas and galaxies fade from one to the other. That bit was for me.

Piling the entire wedding party into the ginormous 15-passenger SUV limo that trucked us up to the photographer's studio and back. The only thing better than traveling in style is traveling BIG in style.

Lisa's Mom's wonderfully sweet toast to me, punctuated by her spilling a full glass of red wine onto my white tuxedo shirt when I came up to hug her. At that point, who cared?

Cutting into the amazing cake Janet made for us, and both of us resisting the urge to smear each other's face with cake.

Our first dance. Frank Sinatra, "Fly Me To The Moon". Just enough choreography to make it a bit of a show, not so much that we'd fuck it up in execution. No one even knew we learned to dance to it three days earlier.

God, so many more moments and events, and so many more small memories and joys. All the hugs, the laughs, the food, the happiness.

And I looked really good in my tux.

Enough! Let's continue this next week.
